Plea Negotiations

These include plea bargains and plea agreements. In criminal cases, the defense attorney and the prosecuting attorney may work out an arrangement where the defendant agrees to plead guilty or no content to certain charges, or announces certain wanted information, so that some charges against the defendant may be lessened or dropped, a particular sentence can be recommended by the Massachusetts prosecuting attorney, or for some other beneficial reason that helps the defendant. Plea bargains are when both the defendant and the prosecutor are working on a way to end a criminal case. Plea agreements are when the bargains have been agreed to by both the defendant and the prosecution.
